up
yes, i know i’m late on this, as its been open in the US since may 29 . . .and out on pirated dvd for at least 3 weeks.
yes it borrows heavily from studio ghibli.
its probably less appropriate for kids than most pixas movies, with a grump grumpy man, two deaths and a miscarriage.
but, man is it the best movie of the year.
sad, funny, heartfelt, and really a much deeper message than most message movies nowadays have.
pixar’s up was well worth the 80rmb i spent at the xintiandi cinemas (for 3d), and being completely honest, i will probably go see it again in the theaters.

Nice write up T. I was gonna take my kids, but sounds like too much of an adult theme? BTW, is this your blog? Nice layout and content!

Thanks Mylinh! This is my space now – it’s just a bunch of scribblings.
As for Up – not being a father (that I know of), I can’t really speak from an expert place, but there’s one or two moments that would make me worry about especially young kids – with two deaths and quite a bit of melancholy moments in the movie. It’s also Pixar’s first PG movie – so I think it might be fine for older kids, but I’m not sure about Ethan and Bel.

It is you! I was going to ask you the same question, since I don’t have a photo of myself attached to my comments!
