a friend of mine who used to live in shanghai and now lives in the ass end of texas (no, not beaumont or port arthur . . . but mcallen) is going to marfa, texas next weeek. i’m not huge on modern art, but i found donald judd and dan flavin’s work at the chinati foundation quite compelling.
lucy’s email reminded me of my road trip through marfa back in 2006, so i thought i’d look through my photos again. this is from a work by dan flavin called “untitled.”

Hopefully the SHContemporary and Shanghai Art Fair both coming in a couple weeks will have some things as interesting.
Unfortunately for my personal growth as a human being, I rarely go to see art unless I’m in a city that I don’t live in. I never went to the Getty until I left LA. I never went to the Palace of Fine Arts until I left the Bay Area. I never went to the HK Art Museum until I moved to Houston. I never went to the Houston Art District until I was leaving. I kind of suck.
(Hint: I probably won’t be at SHContemporary or the SH Art Fair)
