The day we shot some stuff.

Several weeks ago, my friend Steph and I were sitting around talking at a Cal Happy Hour at Boxing Cat. Somehow we got onto the conversation about shooting things. Like with a gun, and she mentioned that there were places to do so in Shanghai, and so quickly we realized that we needed to do this.

A couple of emails back and forth get exchanged and finally we end up with this schedule of events:

~1PM: Brunch: @ Element Fresh at Donghu and Huaihai
~3PM: Warm up round at Shanghai Modern Military Sports Club: 701 Huaihai Road, 7F.
~5PM: East Shanghai Shooting and Archery Club: 663 Hongqiao Road (near Panyu Road).
~8PM: Dinner

As I mentioned to Steph – pretty much the most exciting day ever.

So after brunch at Element Fresh, we wandered over to the Shanghai Modern Military Sports Club – located right in the middle of downtown on the 5th floor of a nondescript building near the H&M. Prices – well, like Vietnam, they weren’t cheap (about 8 RMB per bullet, but we got this membership deal which gave us a pretty good discount)

From the Shanghai Military club in the middle of town, we took a bus down Huaihai to Panyu Lu and the East Shanghai Shooting and Archery Club – this place was kind of awesome. .22s in one shooting range, an indoor archery range, darts, pool tables, LAN linked computers for gaming (albeit only two) and beverages.

I kind of ran low on batteries so I didn’t take too many photos at the second location, but it was awesome. And it is highly highly recommended if you have a spare afternoon.

Hold on a sec…there’s a Cal Happy Hour?! Why have I been here almost 8 years and never known about a single Cal event? T-Lau, give me the info, let’s go next time!

  2. Terence says:

@sushipanda – wait, that’s what you pulled from my post? Yeah, there’s monthly ones as well as quarterly “all university mixers” – actually, there’s one on Thursday night. Check your email.

I have to say I’m disappointed at the lack of high-fiving.

I’ve never fired a gun and always imagined there to be a lot of high-fiving.

    I don’t think I’ll ever bother now..

  4. Terence says:

Well, I couldn’t take a photo of the high fiving – otherwise all you’d get are blurry photos of hands.

  5. Terence says:

I fail to see your point.

  6. Dingle says:

In retrospect I’m not sure either, it was very valid at the time though

  7. Terence says:

    @Dingle – I’m sure you’ll think of it sometime.
