So the World Wrestling Federation made their second visit to Shanghai last night. Andrew and I went out to Pudong Oriental Sports Center to check out the action.
I was really surprised how much the Chinese fans were into it. Not that they wouldn’t be into the fake fighting – that’s fun regardless of language or culture. But they KNEW all of the chants and how to “react” at a wrestling match. When Randy Orton came out – the whole crowd chanted “RKO” Same for Rey Mysterio “619” and when Daniel Bryan was there they chanted “NO!” everytime he said “YES” and then he grabbed the mic and shouted “SHANGHAI SUCKS” the crowd respond with thirty seconds of “NO YOU SUCK NO YOU SUCK” – the Chinese kids KNEW. They also counted out all the pins and the out of the ring counts in English.
WWE brought a good amount of stars too – RKO, Rey Mysterio, The Big Show, Daniel Bryan. Kane, Alberto Del Rio and current Heavyweight Champ (and it was a championship title match too) Sheamus.
This is one time I wish I brought a real camera instead of my iphone. Here’s a bunch of blurry photos.
REY MYSTERIO 619!
We really couldn’t see John Cena (he wasn’t there – but he had the most t-shirts)
I had a lot of fun. Next time I’ll take a better camera!
