And on to the next one . . .

So they gathered us down at Shanghai Stadium at 5:30 on Wednesday. 16 different teams from across Greater China. Nike retail staff, sales, marketing, merchandising and operations staff, all flown to Shanghai (or already living here) for the showdown.

Here’s my team, #naturalbornrunners

Tracy, Joanne, me and Shaun.

The competitions were like this:

1. 5 legged race 50 meters up and back. We did ok in this race, finishing sixth as we had trouble with the turn.

2. Relay Race. First person drinks a beer, then sprints 50 meters. Second person drinks a beer (or in my case Coke), carries person 1 back to the starting line piggy back style 50 meters. First person picks up third person wheelbarrow style and goes 50 meters back. Tags the last person, and the last person drinks a beer, sprints 50 meters with the parachute to the finish. Again, we weren’t great, right in the middle so it would come down to the last race . ..

3. 2 minutes of hell. That’s it. 2 minutes. 50 meters interval sprints back and forth. However many laps you do, that’s what gets counted. Get down and touch to cones. And we beasted this one (relatively speaking) with our count being 14, 13, 13, 13. And finishing 4th overall.

So after a tiebreaker (three teams tied for 6th so they have a final run off they started announcing the teams and we were … fifth!

Here is us celebrating with two other teams which made the finals the Guangzhou Brand experience store team and the North Marketing team

and then the entire 6 teams

They haven’t announced the next challenge yet, but its going to be difficult to make the last 3. But we’re going to try our hardest.

Good grief I wouldn’t even remember if I was supposed to be carrying someone on my back or doing the wheel barrow. And you still haven’t qualified. Well, good luck. Again!

  2. terence says:

Well all you really needed to know was what your leg was supposed to be (I was doing the piggy back). Final 6 teams – will be cuts down to three. . .

  3. Dad says:

Maybe the next one will be an intellectual challenge, little known Nike histories. For example, who was the first athlete signed by Nike?

  4. Dad says:

Or, what was Phil Knight’s best time in the mile?

  5. Terence says:

I think its going to be running centric. They need to be sure we can survive running 3 x 10km in the span of 36 hours with no rest and cramping up in a small, smelly van.

  6. WoAi says:

I’m guessing the van will be smelly because of you guys!

  7. Terence says:

Well, yeah. Running + sweat + sweaty clothes – if we make it, we’ll get some air fresheners and Fabreeze.
