So the Shanghai Marathon came and went again – and I ran it. It was awesome!
First, something new we did, we listed every single runner’s names at the Marathon Expo. Here Tracy and I point out our names!
Here’s my name!
Nike’s running campaign – Run and You’ll Understand!
Here’s our commercial – on both Youku and Vimeo
(actually the english version isn’t the one that was aired – the Chinese version has Mr. Sun’s voiceover talking about how every day he wakes up at 6am or 5am in the summer and runs for an hour. After lunch he’ll play the erhu. He’s been running marathons for 20 years, but he’s now considered too old to be allowed to run. He says “I’ll run until I can’t move anymore)
There’s an entire series of commercials – they’re really quite inspirational – especially in a culture and nation that sees running as boring and pointless.
Here’s one more about three Fudan University (Shanghai) Students who run and what their classmates and friends do instead on weekend nights.
Saturday Morning before the half marathon, we woke up early and got a run in with Mr. Sun (from the commercial) from the Bund to Nike Huaihai store.
Then . . . Race Day!
Starting line at the Bund
Well, what can I say? Conditions were perfect: cold and sunny. I had been doing a lot of running this year. So I kept my pace of 6:15 per km pretty easily and finished with a personal best time of 2:15
With co-workers at the Finish Line #runhai
With Karmen from Nike Guangzhou’s store
With Natural Born Runners!
What a great run!
