I’ve been using the iPhone photographic sharing and filter application Instagram now for a few months. It’s like Twitter for images – and has been a lot of phone to share and see photos from around the world and here in Shanghai as well.

Just last weekend, local Shanghainese instagram user @sgm900_shanghai (Andy) organized a Shanghai instagram meetup at Sinan Mansions – from there we would take a photo walk down to Taikang Lu and have a fun photographic afternoon.

So after seeing my friend Paul’s Instagram posts – full overcooked HDR shots, I asked him what he was using.

Dynamic Light he says.

So I bought it. Installed it. Wow, are the filters FUN!

yeah yeah, hipster-esque with the faux-film like filters. anyways, I think instagram is a heck of a lot of fun. Really easy way to share photos to facebook, twitter and flickr. As if I needed more help in documenting my mundane life.

an old, illegally imported cadillac with big (and ugly) rims. feels like houston circa 2005.

well at least someone is still buying american cars.

i don’t know what all those weird stick on mini-bumpers are either.

1. i don’t know when this turned into a food blog. food is not the only thing in my life – there’s also basketball and bicycles and . . . man my life is really empty.

2. apologies for the crappy photo, but this was taken with my iphone, one-handed.

dish: giant dish of pork bones with meat straws (yes! meat straws!) to suck out the marrow.

dong bei ren is a fun restaurant to bring the tourists – they have the flaming dragon fish, then all the waitresses (who all look like rosy-cheeked apparitions from a 1960′s era issue of ‘china reconstructs’) come over and sing the fish song. they ran out of fish last night, but still came over to sing. the food is over-salted and not the best representation of north-east food, but with the singing, the beer opening with chopsticks, the central location, the dumplings and the sticky, crispy, sweet potato dessert, dong bei ren is good fun.

if you really would rather just eat without all the other trappings, i have a couple of other places around town that are more suitable, but when you get visitors, this is a great place to go.

if something bad were to ever happen to me, at least i can say i landed 146 aircraft on the aircraft carrier level of flight control
