friday night reviewed here my thoughts: xiao yoi (lead singer of pinkberry) was ill, and the crowd was clearly there for sonnet so they had trouble getting the crowd into it. candy shop had to do this terrible promotion for jaeger which killed any momentum they had. sonnet had some great danceable franz ferdinand-esque tracks which i really dug . . . a lot of experimentation with loops and dubs and electronic sounds from a sampler, which i did not dig. boys climbing ropes continue to rock and continue put on a great show. i am a huge fan.

last night i went to the 0093 sampler release mentioned here and here held at the new mao livehouse .
arriving late, i missed most of bang bang tang’s return.

pinkberry
no, not the frozen yoghurt chain from korea/los angeles, but the shanghai pop punk band.
i first heard about pinkberry on Shanghaiist or on Andy Best’s local music blog – and seeing their stuff on youku or tudou, i was instantly hooked by the 3 chord pop-punk and Xiao You’s energy.
as one of the hardest working bands in shanghai (they have TONS of shows) it was only a matter of time before i caught them in a live show – and last Saturday they played both the SOMA Live series at Channel One shopping mall and at eno’s enoise party.
